History of  Santa Maria

One of the single most important voyages in history was the first of Christopher Columbus's four voyages from Spain to the Americas between 1492 and 1502. Columbus had no intention of discovering anything other than a direct route to the Orient, "the land of India and the great island of Cipango [Japan] and the realms of the Great Khan," that is, Cathay, or China.

Santa María was large enough for Columbus to make her his capitana... Santamaria famous in history.
