Kim Bong Carpentry village, also called Kim Bong Chau (presently Cam Kim hamlet, Hoi An), founded in the XVII century, is a traditional handicraft village famous not only in Hoi An, Quang Nam but also in the whole Central of Vietnam. Many associations of skillful carpenters from this village have played an important role in building houses, making furniture, boats and ships including basket in Hoi An and other towns.

For centuries, Kim Bong Carpentry Village has been famous for talent, skillfulness, and accomplishment sharply expressed in architecture, work of art, decorating designs, and mother-of-pearl inlay which can be found in Hoi An’s ancient architectural complex. The Kim Bong Villagers possess such characteristics because they have known how to inherit from the tradition of making furniture and to capture the very essence in culture from the other peoples of different nationalities living in Hoi An such as the Chinese, Japanese, and European.
